02Who we are

Huntrail (“the App”) is developed and operated by Suko Labs (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal data the App collects, why, where it goes, and the choices you have. For anything this policy does not answer, contact us at utku.gokcen13@gmail.com.

03Data we collect

Anonymous account

When you first launch Huntrail, we create an anonymous account using Firebase Authentication (a Google service). This generates a random user ID stored securely in your device keychain. We do not ask for and do not collect your name, email address, phone number or any government identifier. The App assigns you a randomly generated hunter display name, which you can edit at any time.

Profile and hunt data synced to our cloud

To let you restore your log on a new device, the following data is stored under your anonymous user ID in Google Cloud Firestore:

• Profile: the hunt types you selected, your home state, experience level, firearm setup (type, gauge/caliber, make and model if scanned), display name, and your selected hunting area.
• Hunt sessions: date, hunting area name, duration, distance covered, weather summary, shot/sighting/harvest counts, in-hunt events (shots, sightings, blood markers) with their timestamps and map positions, and any free-text note you add.
• Species stamps: the species, date, and the map coordinates of each confirmed harvest.
• Gear inventory: firearms, ammunition and gear you add to your locker.
• Prep plans and recent area searches.
• Technical metadata: account creation date, last-active timestamp and data schema version.
• Notification settings, only if you allow notifications: see Notifications below.

This data is protected by security rules so that only your own authenticated device can read or write it. There is no social feed. Other users see something of yours only if you join or start a crew, and then only the crew data described in Section 06, shared with that crew's members.

Notifications

Huntrail asks for notification permission only after you choose to receive them, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings → Notifications in the App (kind by kind) or in iOS Settings. If you allow them, we send:

• A reminder the evening before a hunt you planned — created and scheduled on your device; nothing about it is sent to us beyond the time it is due (so our server does not send another notification that evening).
• A weekend outlook for the hunting area you chose, season openers for your state and the hunt types you selected, and new announcements from your state's wildlife agency. At most three a week.

To send these, a separate record linked to your anonymous user ID is stored in Google Cloud Firestore: your device's push token, your time zone, your home state and hunt types, which notification kinds are on, the App version, the last time you opened the App, and the hunting area you chose — its name and the centre point of that public area, never your own position. Our server (hosted on Cloudflare) also stores when it last notified you and how many notifications it sent that week. To build the weekend outlook, that area's centre point is sent to Open-Meteo without any identifier. Notifications are delivered by Apple Push Notification service. If you turn notifications off in iOS Settings the record stops being used; it is deleted with your account (see Section 09).

Purchase status

If you subscribe to Huntrail Pro, our payments provider RevenueCat maintains an anonymous identifier and your subscription status (see Section 08).

Diagnostics and product analytics

The App includes Firebase crash-reporting components that may collect crash logs and basic device diagnostics (device model, OS version, crash stack traces) to help us fix bugs. This data is not linked to your identity.

We also record product analytics through Firebase Analytics: which screens are opened, which features are used, and where people stop in a flow. Events carry counts, screen names and feature names only — never your name, notes, photos, coordinates or any other content you create. Firebase assigns a random app instance identifier and derives an approximate (city-level) location from your IP address.

Advertising measurement

We run ads for Huntrail on Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram). To learn which of those ads actually lead to installs and subscriptions, the App includes the Meta SDK and sends Meta a small set of app events — screen and feature names from our own analytics taxonomy, and the value and currency of a subscription purchase. These events carry no name, email, phone number or location.

On first launch iOS asks you, through the system App Tracking Transparency prompt, whether Huntrail may track your activity across other companies' apps and websites:

• If you allow it, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) is included with those events, which lets Meta match an install back to an ad you saw. In Apple's definition this is tracking, and the App's privacy label and privacy manifest declare it as such.
• If you decline (or never answer), no advertising identifier is shared. Measurement then falls back to Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork, which reports installs to the ad network in aggregate, without identifying you.

You can change this answer at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Declining does not limit any feature of the App. We do not show third-party ads inside Huntrail, and we never share your hunt log, GPS tracks, photos or harvest records with an ad network.

04What stays on your device

The following data is stored only on your iPhone and is never uploaded to our servers:

• Raw GPS tracks: the point-by-point breadcrumb trail recorded during an active hunt.
• Harvest photos: photos captured during a harvest scan are saved to the App's private storage on your device. Only the resulting species identification (not the photo) syncs to the cloud.
• Cached map data and the bundled public-land and season databases.

Deleting the App from your device permanently deletes all of this on-device data.

05Photos & AI features

Huntrail has three AI-assisted features. Here is exactly what each one sends off your device:

Nothing is sent to OpenAI until you allow it. Before your first scan or AI hunt brief, the App asks once. If you choose Use on-device only, scans are identified on your phone and the hunt brief shows only what your phone computes, with no written AI plan. You can change this anytime in Settings → AI identification (OpenAI).

Harvest scan

When you scan a harvest and your phone has a network connection, a downsized copy of the camera frame is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI's API to identify the species. The image is used only to produce the identification: we do not store the image on our servers, and it is sent without your user ID, name or location. When you are offline, identification runs entirely on-device and nothing is transmitted.

Firearm / gear scan

When you scan a firearm or other gear from your Profile and have allowed AI identification, a copy of the photo is sent to our server and OpenAI's API for identification while you have a connection, under the same conditions as above. At the same time your phone classifies the image and reads any engraving with on-device text recognition, which is what is used when you are offline or have chosen on-device only.

AI hunt brief

To generate a hunt brief, the App sends a structured summary to our server and OpenAI's API: the date and local time, a coarse place label (such as a town or area name, never your GPS coordinates), sunrise/sunset times, weather conditions, the selected hunting area's public details, the nearest public hunting areas and their distance, your firearm type and your selected hunt types and experience level. No user ID, contact information or precise location is included.

Our AI requests are proxied through Cloudflare infrastructure and processed by OpenAI under its API terms; per OpenAI's API policy, API data is not used to train OpenAI's models. We do not build profiles from AI inputs.

06Location data

Huntrail requests “while using” location access. It is used to:

• Show hunting areas near you and sort them by distance.
• Record your track during an active hunt (tracking can continue in the background while a hunt is running; it stops when you end the hunt).
• Share your live position with your crew, if you have joined one: only while your own hunt is running, and only with the members of that crew (up to 15 people you invited or who gave you their code).
• Fetch local weather: your coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo, a weather service, without any account identifier attached.
• Show nearby hunter services (hospitals, gas, lodging) via Apple Maps, and convert your position to a town name via Apple's geocoding service.

Precise coordinates are synced to our cloud only as part of your own hunt log (in-hunt event markers and harvest stamp locations, as described in Section 03). Your continuous GPS trail is never uploaded. When you hunt with a crew, your latest position (not your trail) is stored on our cloud so crew members can see it; it is deleted when you end your hunt, and automatically within 12 hours if the App could not delete it (for example, your phone lost signal or power). Crew members see the display name you choose, your status (ready, in the field, out) and that latest position. Crew pings, lines you draw on the crew map, crew chat messages and voice notes you record with the talk button are shared only with the members of that crew. They are stored on our cloud so crew members can receive them, and are deleted automatically: pings and drawings within 12 hours, messages and voice notes within 24 hours. If you turn on the crew radio, what you say while holding the talk button is streamed live through our relay server to the crew members who have the radio on. Live radio audio is not recorded: the relay keeps only the transmission in progress and the most recent one, for at most 30 seconds, so a phone that was asleep can still hear it, and then deletes it. The microphone is used only while you hold a talk button. To deliver all of this to a phone whose app is closed, your device's push tokens (including one Apple issues for the radio) are stored with your account and used only for crew notifications and for the notifications you opted into (Section 03, Notifications). If you report a crew message or hunter, the report stores who reported whom, the reason, and a copy of the reported message or voice note (so it can still be reviewed after the original is deleted). Reports are visible only to us, are used only to enforce the crew rules, and are deleted within 90 days of being resolved. If you block a hunter, the list of hunters you blocked is stored with your account so our server stops sending you their messages; it is deleted with your account. You can deny or revoke location access in iOS Settings at any time; map and log features will be limited accordingly.

07Service providers

Each provider processes data on our behalf or under its own published terms. We do not sell personal data to anyone, and we do not share it with data brokers. The only data that reaches an advertising platform is the measurement described in Section 03: app event names, purchase value, and — with your permission — the device advertising identifier. Under laws such as the CCPA, sharing an advertising identifier for measurement may itself count as “sharing”; declining the tracking prompt, or turning off Allow Apps to Request to Track in iOS Settings, opts you out of it.

08Purchases

Huntrail Pro subscriptions are billed by Apple through your App Store account. We never see your payment card or billing details. RevenueCat processes your App Store receipt and an anonymous identifier to determine your subscription status. See RevenueCat's privacy policy for details.

09Retention & deletion

• On-device data (GPS tracks, harvest photos, caches) is deleted when you delete the App.
• Cloud-synced data is retained under your anonymous account so it can be restored to a new device.
• AI inputs (scan photos, brief context) are not stored by us after the response is produced.

To permanently delete your account and all data associated with it — your profile, hunt log, stamps, gear, cloud backup, your crew memberships, your push token and notification settings — use Settings → Delete Account & Data in the App. Deletion runs immediately: the cloud record and the anonymous account are erased, then the on-device copy is cleared. You can also contact us at utku.gokcen13@gmail.com (include your display name so we can locate the anonymous account) and we will erase all data associated with your account without undue delay. Because accounts are anonymous, deleting the App without using either path leaves the orphaned cloud record inaccessible to anyone, and we periodically purge long-inactive anonymous accounts.

10Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/EEA/UK, the CCPA/CPRA in California, or the KVKK in Türkiye), you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You can exercise these rights by contacting utku.gokcen13@gmail.com. Because our accounts are anonymous, we may ask you to verify control of the device/account before acting on a request. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right, and we do not “sell” or “share” personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA.

11Children

Huntrail is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Hunting laws set their own minimum ages and supervision requirements; minors should use the App only under adult supervision and in compliance with local law. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

12Security

All network traffic uses TLS encryption. Cloud data is protected by per-user security rules so only your authenticated device can access your records. Your anonymous credential is stored in the iOS keychain. No system is perfectly secure, but we minimize risk by collecting no contact details and keeping the most sensitive data (your GPS trail and photos) on your device.

13Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date, and where appropriate flagged in the App. Continued use of the App after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
